Knowing God

Every good gift and every perfect (free, large, full) gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of all [that gives] light, in [the shining of] Whom there can be no variation [rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [as in an eclipse].-James 1:17

It is so important to know God. You can know all about somebody, but still never know what their reaction or response to you is going to be. If you know God, then you can know how He is going to react to you. Everything you read in the Bible has to be read out of an understanding of God's character and His intense love for you. If you don't know Him, you may be confused, hurt, and quite possibly misunderstand His intentions for you.

Numbers 23:19 says "God is not a man that He should tell or act a lie...." Think about this for just a moment. God is a Spirit being who will not lie. Every word from Him is truth. We know that the Bible is the written word of God, so we can look to it to see how God will treat us and react to us.

There are numerous amounts of scriptures in the Bible that share who God is and will help us to get to know Him. Jeremiah 29:11 says He wishes for us to have peace. Peace is freedom from all the distresses that are experienced as a result of sin according to the amplified Bible. Psalm 145:9 says, "The Lord is good..." 1 John 4:16 says, "God is love...."

We can look at all these scriptures and see that God is a good, loving Father who wishes peace for us. As we learn to come to recognize these things truth will be born in our hearts and we can respond to God as a loving Father. My prayer for us all today is that we come into a deeper knowledge of this truth and grow in our relationship with the Lord.

Love in Christ,
Beth
